In many respects, modern
human beings have reached a limit. The gargantuan efforts made by
so many people, particularly during the last century or so, to attain
lasting peace, freedom and happiness for all, have yielded so little
at the cost of so much, that in more and more people the feeling is
growing that perhaps their high, heartfelt ideals are nothing more
than utopian dreams. Is that true, then? Is there no real possibility
of liberation? Yes, says the author, there is ... but not for the
human being as he exists at this moment.
In 'The Coming New Man', Jan van Rijckenborgh
shows clearly why a New Human Being must be conceived. Very concretely,
he explains how, with the help of the inner Christ-power, the old
I-central self with its system of vehicles can be dissolved and
a new system of vehicles, under the guidance of the inner Christ,
can be constructed. This process of regeneration, which Van Rijckenborgh
calls 'transfiguration', is what leads us, ultimately, to liberation.
It is a process which needs to unfold in each one of us individually,
and which is expressed in the words of John the Baptist: 'He (the
Christ in me) must increase, and I (the I-central self) must decrease'.
